Why arcade racers still feel great on a phone

Every year someone says mobile racing needs a controller to be good. I disagree, and games like Neon Slipstream are why. Arcade handling — loose, drift-happy, forgiving — is the perfect match for tilt and tap controls.

The trick is that arcade racers don't chase realism. You're not managing tire wear, you're chasing a feeling of speed. On a phone, where precision inputs are hard, that looseness becomes a strength instead of a compromise.

Short run lengths help too. A ninety-second lap fits a bus ride. I've cleared entire race series in the gaps of a normal day, and that's a kind of design that respects how phones actually get used.

If you're picking one up, spend a few minutes deciding between tilt and touch before you commit to a car. The control scheme changes how corners feel completely, and most people don't realize both options exist.
